Offshore drilling is a good idea

Want to say thanks for a great article on offshore drilling. This is a very important topic, and I am finding that Florida folks who don’t live along the coast are very much in favor of drilling for oil. As one man said to me, “The guys who are complaining about offshore drilling live in the condos along the beach. You know what? I can’t see the beach because of their condos. I don’t care what they think. I need gas prices to come down to get to work.”
 
Folks are angry, and maybe you are sensing it, too.
 
Think about this:
 
• The tourism economy in the state of Florida is threatened by high energy prices.
• Jet fuel costs are bringing an end to cheap flights to Florida.
• The high price of gasoline can hurt car travel by out of state visitors.
• The rising price of energy is likely to end in severe inflation (producer price index up 7 percent over last year). Vacations away from home are declining.
 
For our Florida economy to heal, we need cheap energy. We need a national dialogue on this, and you are helping to start it. America is hurting financially, and we need to stop the bleeding with American energy.
 
Florida has it – sun, wind and oil. Let’s go 100 percent toward all three.
