Buying land at a tax sale is not a scam

Editor,

The situation that you described in this article (http://www.floridarealtors.org/NewsAndEvents/n4-052908.cfm) is not a scam nor extortion. It is legal to buy real estate at a tax sale. And thus, the purchaser/owner can ask any price they would like for it, just like any other legitimate owner of real estate.

In addition, you can also use the land in any legal way that you, as the owner, want. That is neither extortion nor a scam either.

The previous owners (of land sold at a tax sale) should have paid their taxes if they did not want their property sold at a tax sale.

Who got the idea this method of buying real estate is a scam? This is a legitimate way to purchase property. Sorry if the previous owner does want to pay the price of the current owner – then, as with any other transaction, don’t buy it.

In my opinion you owe the company mentioned in the article at the very least an apology.
