Balancing Work and Play

If asked what first attracted you to a career in real estate, you might answer "flexibility." Yet, by focusing too intently on your career as a Realtor, you can lose the flexibility that initially appealed to you.

Chris McDevitt shares this idea on how to do a good job without being consumed by it: Enter personal and business appointments on the same calendar.

Then, when someone wants to look at a home at the exact same time as your child’s school play, you have an answer: “I already have an appointment at that time. What other time would work for you?”

A dual calendar allows you to save time for the family and still be responsive as a Realtor. You don’t want to burn out or disappoint people, either family members or clients.
Ask the Expert

Q: “I’m competing with people who can afford slick brochures that cater to higher-end buyers. And newspaper ads don’t generate many leads compared to the cost of running the ads. I’m trying to come up with a consistent way of marketing every month to 2,000 properties.”
